On the evening before, or the morning of your surgery you will be admitted to hospital. It is important that you arrive on time, allowing the staff prepare you appropriately for your operation. If you are being admitted to hospital on the day of your surgery, it is important to remember to fast from the requested time.
You will need to make arrangements for a family member or friend to drive you to the hospital prior to your surgery, and also someone to drive you home following your discharge from the hospital.
After your surgery, your activities will gradually increase. Patients are usually transferred from the Intensive Care Unit, to the Neurosurgery Ward on the day following surgery. The incision will be dressed appropriately and, in most cases, can be removed 2 days after your surgery.
Generally, you will be discharged 5 to 7 days following your surgery. The correct use of medications will be discussed with you prior to discharge.
